Telehealth Auditory Processing Evaluations Now Available Across Pennsylvania!

At Aberdeen Audiology, we are thrilled to announce a major expansion of our services: we now offer comprehensive Auditory Processing Evaluations via telehealth!

Because these evaluations are conducted virtually, this means that anyone residing in the state of Pennsylvania can now receive an expert evaluation from the comfort of their own home, without the need to travel to our physical clinic.

What is an Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)?

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) occurs when the brain has difficulty understanding and processing the sounds that the ears hear. Even if someone has "perfect" hearing on a standard hearing test, they may still struggle to make sense of spoken language.

Common signs of an auditory processing disorder include:

• Difficulty understanding speech in noisy environments (like restaurants or classrooms)
• Frequently asking others to repeat themselves ("what?" or "huh?")
• Struggling to follow multi-step, complex auditory directions
• Difficulty distinguishing between similar-sounding words
• Easily distracted or unusually fatigued by listening

A Simple Prerequisite to Get Started

Before we can evaluate how your brain processes sound, we must first ensure that your ears are physically receiving and sending the sound to the brain normally.

Therefore, patients are required to have a standard peripheral hearing examination by an audiologist no more than three months prior to scheduling a telehealth APD evaluation. This allows us to rule out foundational hearing loss as the cause of your listening difficulties.

Once that evaluation has been completed, please share it with our office by emailing the results to info@aberdeenaud.com or faxing them to 610-688-6007.

What You Need for Your Telehealth Appointment

We have designed our telehealth process to be as simple and accessible as possible. You do not need any complex medical equipment at home. To successfully complete your virtual evaluation, you will only need:

1. Wired headphones (Bluetooth or wireless headphones cannot be used, as they can cause audio delays or quality drops)‍
2. A distraction-free environment (a quiet room with a closed door where you won't be interrupted)‍
3. A stable internet connection
4. Zoom installed on your computer.
